Construction National Vocational Qualifications

When you take an NVQ you don't have to attend a training course. Your competence is assessed based upon the work that you do. You will have an assessor that will work with you throughout the qualification and it is their role to guide and help you.

You will produce a portfolio of documents such as risk assessments, method statements, drawings, specifications and other documents, correspondence or emails that demonstrate your activities. You write a short description of each one to explain how you use them.

You can also use photographs to demonstrate your abilities.

You will  have some work-based questions that you answer in short paragraphs. You can do these at your own pace. Your assessor will be able to help you if there is anything you don't understand.

The qualifications use an cloud-based system so that you can upload your documents and questions and your assessor will respond and assess your work in that system. You will be able to see your progress towards 100% completion.

Your assessor will usually record a discussion with you where you can speak about your role and experience to further support your competence.

​

Your assessor may visit you on site to observe you.

Your line manager will be asked to confirm some of the activities that you do relating to the supervision of others.
